Photobiology of Higher Plants

Photobiology of Higher Plants
The Photobiology of Higher Plants offers a comprehensive, balanced coverage of both photosynthesis (including physiology and global aspects) and photomorphogenesis in plants. An accessible, student-friendly approach to the subject is taken, providing the reader with a useful historical perspective and showing how this fascinating subject has evolved. All aspects of plant biochemistry and plant physiology are included with the fundamentals of the subject rigorously covered. Each chapter includes numerous references to provide a useful starting point for those wishing to learn more about the subject. * Provides combined coverage of both photosynthesis and photomorphogenesis in plants.

Robert Hill (plant biochemist) - Dr. Robert (Robin) Hill (April 2, 1899 – March 15, 1991), was a British plant biochemist who, in 1939, demonstrated the ‘Hill reaction’ of photosynthesis, proving that oxygen is evolved during the light requiring steps of photosynthesis.

Plant physiology - In botany, plant physiology is the study of the function, or physiology, of plants. Fundamental processes such as photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration are studied by plant physiologists.

Chloroplast - Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells and eukaryotic algae that conduct photosynthesis. Chloroplasts capture light energy from the sun to produce the free energy stored in ATP and NADPH through a process called photosynthesis.

Stoma - In botany, a stoma (also stomate; plural stomata) is a tiny opening or pore, found mostly on the undersurface of a plant leaf, and used for gas exchange. Air containing carbon dioxide and oxygen enters the plant through these openings where it gets used in photosynthesis and respiration.

Nutrients Plant Need - Nutrients Plant Need Physiological plant disorders - It is important to be able to distinguish between plant growth problems that are caused by pathogens, such as a virus or fungus, and those which are caused by nonpathological disorders in the functioning of the plant system, such as poor light, weather damage, water-logging or lack of nutrients. Whilst the symptoms may appear disease-like, physiological plant disorders can usually be prevented by altering environmental conditions, although once a Gradient analysis - Gradient analysis ...

Atmosphere and Plant - Atmosphere and Plant Plants and Microclimate This book attempts to provide a soundly based introduction to those features of the atmospheric environment of particular relevance to plants; it also describes the physical atmosphere and plant and physiological principles required for understanding how these factors affect plants. The underlying biophysics atmosphere and plant and biochemistry are explained in the context of plants growing in their natural environment. For example, gas exchange atmosphere and plant and diffusion are considered in relation to the ...
